Adrien Broner Sentenced to 30 Days in Jail for Late Court Appearance

(from vladtv) Adrien Broner will serve 30 days in jail after he failed to show up a court appearance on time.
Broner was scheduled to stand trial for assault and aggravated robbery charges, but was late due to what he described as being “ill.” The former champion walked into the courtroom 3 hours after his scheduled time and claimed he was sick due to someone putting something in his drink the night before. The judge did not buy the excuse and sentenced him to 30 days in prison for failing to comply with the court’s wishes. The sentence was issued by Judge Robert Ruehlman, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “You don’t look well you have a hangover,” said Ruehlman when Broner walked into the courtroom. Broner responded promptly. “I have been sick all morning. When I finally got well, I called my lawyer,” he said. The judge even made a boxing joke when he made it clear that Broner will get punished for his lateness. “It’s not a good excuse. He looks like he’s drunk or hungover. To coin a little boxing phrase, you’re not ducking this one,” he said.
Broner’s charges stem from an altercation he had with a man outside a bowling alley in Cincinnati. The boxer allegedly assaulted and robbed him of $12,000 at gunpoint. He was apparently seeking to take back money that he lost while gambling with the victim. The man was knocked unconscious and robbed. The judge made strict guidelines regarding Broner's sentencing, according to court documents which state that the boxer is not to be "released under any circumstances."
